Coral Coast luxury in Fiji

Outrigger Fiji

The Coral Coast of Fiji has been a popular destination for people from around the globe planning their holiday for several years. For some reason Kiwis, if they aren’t going to an island resort, struggle to get past Nadi and Denarau. They don’t know what they are missing!

Located on the south-western side of the main island, Viti Levu, the Coral Coast is named for its coral reef that runs offshore along the coast. This was one of the first areas of Fiji to be developed for tourism back in the 1950’s with its white sandy beaches and a backdrop of undulating hills covered in lush vegetation.

There are numerous hotels to choose from along the coast, but the 5-star Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, just over an hour’s drive from Nadi is a standout. The property caters to everyone with the enthusiasm and friendliness that Fiji is renowned for. Whether it be a wedding, romantic getaway, family holiday or just a break from your usual daily routine, a stay at Outrigger has a feeling of intimacy. Everything you could want for a memorable holiday is there.

Set on 40 acres, the resort stretches from the white sandy beach of the lagoon up a gentle slope through tropical gardens and swaying palm trees to the main resort building and then across the road and up the hill for some of the best views about.

Accommodation

Take your pick of either a modern hotel room or a traditional bure. The sweeping views across the gardens to the sea from rooms in the modern hotel block are extensive. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on a balcony looking out to sea, especially when there is a glorious sunset, so with a comfortable bed and large bathroom these rooms are hard to go past.

On the other hand, staying in your own traditional Fijian bure with its high-vaulted, tapa-lined ceiling and a veranda is very special.  Most bures also have their own hammock for you to enjoy the sun and balmy sea breeze.

You are in for a special treat if you stay in a Deluxe Ocean View Room, suite or bure.  A personal Talai Butler will be on hand to not only assist with things you may need during the day but they will also serve an aperitif and canapes in your room each evening – a perfect way to wind down after the day’s activities.

Solid and Liquid sustenance

No holiday is complete without indulging in the food and beverages on offer.  Outrigger offers plenty of options to ensure that everyone is very well catered for.

From ‘Takia on the go’ in the lobby where you can purchase food and coffee to go, through to the fine-dining ‘Ivi’ restaurant you will not return home disappointed.

The creative, pacific-fusion menu at Ivi is magnificent in presentation, service and flavour but I was taken with the Sundowner Bar and Grill. Set right on the beach I suggest you book a table that is by the railing overlooking the lagoon so that you can enjoy the sunset as you sip a cocktail and enjoy your meal.

Activities

There is something for everyone at this resort. There are.  Of course, relaxing at the beach or one of the pools is a given but if you want a change there are many complimentary activities as well as paid excursions or services to choose from.

The resort’s direct-action Community Tourism Project is one of the activities you will pay for. This innovative full-day excursion is unique and gives you a chance to give back to the local community while on holiday by helping with a community building project. This is something that will give you plenty of memories to share with friends and family on your return home.

They may not have a golf course but you can keep up your practice at the resort’s Golf Training Facility.

It’s worth noting that there are five adult-only areas around the resort so even though it’s extremely family-friendly, you can find somewhere quieter if you that is what appeals to you.

Spa

Bebe Spa Sanctuary set high on Vakalomalagi Hill overlooking the resort has the most breathtaking sweeping views along the coastline.  The spa menu offers treatments for both men and women that will leave you feeling renewed. From welcoming staff to wonderful treatments in a relaxing environment everyone will leave wanting to go back for more.

To make your Spa visit extra special you can complete the experience with a glass of champagne at Kalokalo Bar as you soak up the views.

Whatever you do during a stay at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort you will come away happy with many memories of your stay.
