The Clubroom has really changed how the golf retail experience takes place today, with a very hands-on focus. A recent player to the Auckland ‘street’ golf scene, the store has focused on golfers, ensuring that all golfers are fully catered for. As David Feeney puts it, “Most of our customers come into the store wide-eyed and somewhat overwhelmed but they leave as friends!” We understand product selection and range, which was found to be important to golf retail consumers. In some cases, it can take up to 2-hours to get the right fit and understand what the golfer needs. That may also include some lesson tips to get them really maximising their talents”. James Colligan, who has been in the golf industry for over twenty years with many of those years as the manager of a golf shop and driving range, moved across to help establish The Clubroom. James is TheClubroom wheregreatgolfstarts WORDSANDREWWHILEY also well-known in Auckland’s golf scene, having played representative golf and a loyal member at Muriwai Golf Club for over two decades. He is such a supporter of the golf club that he even had his wedding at the club! Former touring professional and PGA Professional at the Tauranga Golf Club, Jim Cusdin, is also involved with the Auckland store as a shareholder and he leads “The Clubroom” in Tauranga. Jim loves being part of the team “We really spend a lot of time challenging each other to get better. When I was playing I always had a strong focus around how equipment could improve people’s games and this is what we are now hands-on with, on a daily basis. With our combined history in golf, we know why people play and that it is a great game for health and wellbeing. Plus a happy golfer plays more!” Hayden McCullum, who is the manager of the Waitemata Golf Club, brings his extensive marketing background specific to golf. Being based at a golf club, he sees what is happening at the grass roots level of the game and how golfers of today are engaging in the game. This definitely helps the Clubroom to better connect with the golfer and has seen the Clubroom grow its corporate relationships and BUYING GOLF EQUIPMENT CAN BE EXTREMELY DAUNTING WITH ALL THE INFORMATION THAT EXISTS ON TELEVISION, YOUTUBE AND IN GOLF PUBLICATIONS. SO, WHEN FOUR GOLF FRIENDS GOT TOGETHER AND STARTED TALKING GOLF, THIS WAS THE CATALYST FOR THE LAUNCH OF “THE CLUBROOM”.
